We Love our Customers!

Thank-you to all of our customers, both old and new, who came out to the Mad About You sale this past weekend.

I hope everyone had fun - I know I did! We love hearing about what you're knitting and what your plans are for your new stash. I hope you'll all start visiting us in our Ravelry forum and sharing your new projects.

There will be some changes to this site in the next week. We have a new look and a new server so if this page goes away for a day, don't be concerned. The site's address (http://onceuponasheep.ca) is not changing but sometimes when you switch servers there is a small window of downtime.

It's Sale Time!

Yes, you heard right! It's time for Once Upon A Sheep's "MAD ABOUT EWE" sale!

To prepare for this annual event we'll be closed for 3 days next week (February 14 - 16) and will re-open on Friday February 17 at 10 am.

Great deals to be had, come prepared to stock up! Please note that the PK Discount does not apply to any yarns/books/patterns during this sale.

We'll be open Friday February 17th AND Saturday February 18th from 10 am to 5 pm - we hope to see you then!
 

HOLIDAY HOURS, Dec 24 - January 2nd

We will be open Christmas Eve, December 24th - from 10 am to 2 pm.

CLOSED DECEMBER 25th, 26th AND 27th.

OPEN 10 am to 4 pm from WEDNESDAY December 28th thru Friday, December 30th. We will be open from 10 am to 2 pm on New Year's Eve, December 31st.

CLOSED JANUARY 1st and 2nd, 2012. Regular hours resume Tuesday January 3rd, 2012.

 A reminder that from now until Christmas we have extended hours and will be open six days a week, MONDAY THRU SATURDAY, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Shop Closed for Remembrance Day

Just a reminder that we will be closed on Friday, November 11th for Remembrance Day.

We will re-open Saturday, November 12th at 10 am.

Now with Knitting Classes!

After many requests, we are pleased to announce Once Upon A Sheep is going to be offering a Beginners Beaded Lace Class.

This class is suitable for beginning lace knitters, or those knitters with some experience who are ready to tackle a lace project.

This class will focus on completing a beaded lace scarf while learning to:
-Read lace charts
-Chart written lace patterns
-Complete simple lace knitting stitches
-Block lace
-Use a lifeline
-Correct common errors
-Bead using the crochet hook technique
-Use flexible bind offs

Date & Times:
Wednesday Evening 7:30PM to 9:00PM
November 2 to Wednesday November 23
The instructor is Heather Boyd, a member of the Whonnock Weavers and local fiber artist who creates her own beautiful handspun yarn.

Materials: Most materials are provided however, students should bring:
-Scissors
-Blunt end tapestry needles
-A project bag (to carry your project home)
-Pencil
-Highlighter

NOTE: Some knitting homework is required between classes.

Price:
$110 for class and materials (with the exception of above noted items)
$100 to current Passion Knitters.
Payment required at the time of registration. Cheques are to be made payable to Heather Boyd.

A minimum of three students is required to run the class, and maximum size will be six students. Registration deadline: October 29th.

WELCOME TO FALL

It was a busy summer and with the arrival of Fall we have many changes in the shop! We'll be updating the blog soon with all the details, but if you really can't wait then please drop by and say hello.

We have beautiful Namaste Knitting bags in stock, and KnitPicks Harmony wood needles will be making their way onto the shelves by the end of September.

As well, we are back to our regular hours:

10 am to 4 pm - TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

Our knitting night is every Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm.

To give our volunteers a break and because traffic in the shop during the summer is very slow, we're changing our summer hours.

Tuesday to Saturday     10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Farewell Night!

What a great night it was on Tuesday! I want to thank all the women who came out to say farewell and wish me all the best in my new appointment in London, Ontario.  Here we are in the picture (missing in action - Benita, who left a bit early) we all squeezed in and spread out the lovely gift the women made for me.  I'm not sure who all was in on the knitting, but some of them knit squares and Benita put it all together for me. This lovely pattern is found in Berroco's book, Comfort: Knitting & Crochet Afghans and it is so lovely and soft. I love Berroco's Comfort Yarns, and for those like me, allergic to sheep wool, it's the perfect yarn!

I'm so going to miss all my yarn girls!  I've been running the Tuesday night drop in for eight years now, we started in the fall of 2003, right after the shop opened.  I've lost count of the number of people I've taught how to cast on and off! Every week on Tuesday nights I show up at the shop and over the years our numbers have gone up and down according to the season and if it's time to get your gardening done!  But the last few years there have been a consistent number of women who've attended and a few years ago we started going through the summer as well.  Each and every night I've gone, I've been so blessed. I've formed relationships with so many women, and I love each one of them! They are all special. Even though I won't be there physically, I plan to be there at least virtually! This fall I'll be skyping in from London!

If you haven't yet tried out the Tuesday night drop in, I want to encourage you to do so. You'll find a warm and inviting group of women who are all ready and willing to let you into their hearts!  After a while, you won't know what you ever did without them. Together we share a laugh, unburden our stresses, talk about our families, gripe about our problems, pray for each other when we're ill, rejoice with each other in our successes. Have I convinced you yet???

Anyway, thank you girls for your lovely gift, the lovely night and all the years of Tuesday nights that have brightened my life!

We Don't Want to do Inventory Sale!!!

Inventory! Yuck!  All that counting! Ball after ball of yarn, it takes all day and an army of volunteers. Now, if we had one of those fancy, shmancy computer systems with a barcode scanner and automatic inventory updater... well, then we'd be set! But then think about it... we wouldn't be having this awesome sale either!

Closed Easter Weekend

Hi Everyone,

We want to take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Easter Weekend!  For those who have a different faith tradition we hope your weekend is a restful one and that you have an opportunity to rejeuvenate over the holiday weekend.

Once Upon a Sheep will be closed this weekend.  We are sorry for any inconvenience, but our volunteers have worked very hard this year and deserve a well needed break! We will re-open on Tuesday 26th of April.
